How the Weight and Balance Calculator works
Moment = weight × arm for every item, and center of gravity = total moment ÷ total weight. Fuel is counted at 6 lb per US gallon. The default numbers are only an example. Take the real empty weight, arms, and limits from your aircraft weight and balance record, then check that the answer falls inside the CG envelope in the flight manual. This tool checks total weight but does not draw the envelope. Example: with Empty weight 1650 lb, Empty weight arm 39.5 in, Front seats weight 340 lb, Front seats arm 37 in, Rear seats weight 150 lb, Rear seats arm 73 in, Baggage weight 40 lb, Baggage arm 95 in, Fuel on board 40 US gal, Fuel arm 48 in, and Maximum gross weight 2550 lb, the result is Center of gravity (in from datum) = 42.99; Total weight (lb) = 2,420; Total moment (lb-in) = 104,025.

Example: Weight and Balance Calculator with the starting values
With empty weight 1650 lb, empty weight arm 39.5 in, front seats weight 340 lb, front seats arm 37 in and rear seats weight 150 lb, the calculator returns:
| Center of gravity (in from datum) | 42.99 |
|---|---|
| Total weight (lb) | 2,420 |
| Total moment (lb-in) | 104,025 |
| Margin to max gross weight (lb) | 130 |
| Weight status | Within maximum gross weight |

Weight and Balance Calculator FAQ
How do I use the Weight and Balance Calculator?
Enter empty weight, empty weight arm, front seats weight and front seats arm in the fields, then read center of gravity (in from datum), total weight (lb), total moment (lb-in) and margin to max gross weight (lb) in the result panel. The answer updates as you type, and you can press Calculate or Enter to refresh it. Use “Copy link” to share your exact numbers with someone else.
What does the Weight and Balance Calculator calculate?
Total weight, moment, and center of gravity of a loaded aircraft. It returns center of gravity (in from datum), total weight (lb), total moment (lb-in) and margin to max gross weight (lb) from the 11 values you provide.
What values does the Weight and Balance Calculator start with?
It opens with empty weight 1650 lb, empty weight arm 39.5 in, front seats weight 340 lb and front seats arm 37 in so you can see a working result straight away. Replace them with your own numbers, or press Reset to return to these starting values.
Is the Weight and Balance Calculator free and private?
Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to or stored on our servers. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Can I rely on the Weight and Balance Calculator for important decisions?
Treat the result as a well-rounded estimate. Real situations often have details a general calculator cannot know, so confirm important decisions with a qualified professional. See the Disclaimer for more.
