How the Seeding Rate Calculator works
Seeding rate = target plant population ÷ (germination share × field emergence share). Germination comes from the seed tag, and field emergence covers seed that never comes up because of cold, crusting, insects, or poor seedbed. Planting more than the target makes up for these losses so the final stand matches the plan. Bags needed are the total seeds divided by the seeds per bag, rounded up. Use the seed tag and local advice from your extension service for the target population of each crop.
